Two widows in the Moorlands have raised more than £3,000 for charity in memory of their husbands.
Jo Upton and Mel Avery, who both live in Cheadle, recently completed a ‘March Walkathon’ in aid of both the Douglas Macmillan Hospice and the Midlands Air Ambulance.
For the challenge, the duo walked five kilometres every day during the month of March.
Now they have totted up how much they raised between them – a total of £3,200 – and presented the donations to the two charities.
Jo said that she and Mel had been “gobsmacked” about how much they managed to raise during the challenge.
She said: “Words cannot express how we are feeling about how much we raised – amazed, grateful and a little emotional. Seeing the final figure on paper has blown us away – £3,200.
“Thank you to all who have donated, played our raffles and supported us along the way.
“It really means so much to us and we are so grateful to be able to pass over such an amazing amount of money to each charity.
“I am sure our hubbies Dean and Les will be so so proud of us.”
