SISTERS TO BE REUNITED WITH FAMILY
SISTERS who waved goodbye to their parents and little brother so he could undergo specialist treatment in America are to be reunited with their family, thanks to a massive fundraising drive.
Amelia and Olivia Alcock remained behind when parents Anna and Karl from Tean took three-year-old Dylan to Jacksonville, Florida, for an experimental new therapy around three weeks ago.
The sisters are flying out to see their parents and Dylan today (Wednesday, October 4), thanks to the huge generosity of fundraisers who have so far donated more than £10,000 to support the family as they seek potentially life-saving care for their son.
The girls will be accompanied on their trip by Karl’s sister, Louise Alcock and Anna’s mother, Anne Clark.
Louise said: “We are paying for ourselves as the money is for Dylan and the family.
“The girls are very excited to see their mum, dad and brother.
“It will be fantastic for Anna, Karl and Dylan as they are missing their family terribly so it will lift their spirits.”
Dylan was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in August and doctors recommended a pioneering new treatment for the tot – but it was only available in America.
Since then, hundreds of people have rallied round the family to help fund their trip for the care, hosting scores of events including a charity football match, music festival and coffee mornings.
Fundraising efforts continue on Sunday, October 8, when a group of Tean Albion footballers will take part in the Rourkies Cat & Fiddle Challenge and then on Saturday, October 14, when a Dig Deep for Dylan event takes place in Tean.
Dylan’s treatment was delayed when Hurricane Irma hit Florida, flooding the hospitals where he was due to receive the new therapy. The youngster has also had to spend his third birthday away from his sisters, wider family and friends.
