Swimmer honoured to be in running for Sports Personality award

UTTOXETER golden boy Adam Peaty is hoping it’s fourth time lucky after being shortlisted for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award yet again.
The Olympic champion and world record holder was this week announced as one of 12 candidates for the prestigious accolade.
It’s the fourth year in a row that the 22-year-old swimmer has been nominated for the award, which is decided by a public vote in a live TV show on December 17.
He said: “Being nominated for Sports Personality of the Year is a huge, huge honour for me – it’s my fourth time now so fourth time lucky, hopefully.
“It’s a fantastic recognition for me, but also to my coaches and my family – it obviously makes them proud. And it’s for all those people who have supported me along the way.
“It’s a great way to celebrate an incredible year – and it’s brilliant to be able to put my sport on the map.”
Peaty, a former pupil at Painsley Catholic College in Cheadle, will be up against the likes of boxer Anthony Joshua, athletics star Sir Mo Farah and Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton in the ceremony, to be held this year in Liverpool.
