A section of road in Cheadle is expected to be closed for more than four months early next year.

Prince George Street is set to be shut from January 4 to May 6 so demolition works can take place.

Numbers 80 and 82 will be razed to the ground with the road only to be closed where those two houses are.

Therefore residents will still be able to access their houses along Prince George Street although both pedestrians and vehicles will not be able to pass through the section of road that is closed off.

Rubble that fell as a result of the September 2019 landslide in the area – which forced many a number of High Street shops to close or move out – is set to be removed.

Vicki Makinson of Walsh Construction Limited – the company carrying out the works – confirmed: “The rubble behind the shops is part of the job, so this will be being removed.”

Staffordshire County Council has authorised the road closure after Walsh Construction Limited requested it for the works to be carried out.

Councillor David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at the local authority said: “The company carrying out the works have requested that the road is closed to ensure their work can be carried out safely which we have agreed to.

“Access to local premises will have to be maintained throughout the works.”
