A FORMER bank could be transformed into a bar under new proposals. Planning permissions have been submitted to East Staffordshire Borough Council (ESBC) to change 2 High Street in Uttoxeter into a cafe-come-bar after the owner failed to find an occupant for its proposed retail use - plans that were approved back in May. The three-storey building was last occupied by the Royal Bank of Scotland but the premises has been vacant since it's closure in August 2018.
A planning statement for the application read: “An application was approved in May 2019 for the change of use from bank to retail shop at ground floor and conversion of first and second floor to form two flats.
“No external alterations were proposed.
“The owner is currently implementing the permission associated with the first and second floors, however he has not been to find an occupier for the retail unit.
“Therefore, the proposal seeks permission for the change of use and associated external alterations to the ground floor to form a café/bar.
“The applicants A&G Uttoxeter Ltd already manage three pubs in the town centre and see the premises as an ideal location to expand the business.
“It is clear the applicant has a long-term commitment to the town and already makes a valuable contribution to the vitality of the local economy.
“During the day the premises will operate as a cafe serving light bites and hot beverages, and a bar during the evening.
The proposals went on to say that the building could have a capacity of around 40 patrons.
The application form submitted to ESBC stated that four full-time members of staff would be employed alongside two part-time positions and proposed that the venue would be open from 9am until midnight from Monday to Sunday, including on bank holidays.
