A SPONSORED head shave by a Uttoxeter police officer has already raised more than £4,000. PC Rich Lymer is set to lose his infamous ‘man bun’ for three cancer charities next month. And the trim itself is set to be a community event, with entertainment and refreshments.
PC Rich has been growing his hair for more than seven years and, after appearing on TV’s Bodycam Squad, became known across the UK for his ‘man bun.’ Earlier this month, Rich decided to get rid of his 20inch locks and raise money for three cancer charities at the same time. His fund-raising appeal has already topped £4,000 and there are still four weeks to go until he faces the scissors on Saturday, May 22.
Rich said: “I suppose the most exciting news is that fundraising currently stands at £3,980 in online donations and I have also got £130 in cash donations so that means a hugely impressive total of £4,110 raised so far
“I am completely overwhelmed by the kindness, generosity and support this fundraising event has had so far. I seriously cannot wait to be able to give this money to the charities knowing the financial support and help it will give to them which in turn will help those families affected by Breast Cancer.
“In terms of the fundraising I have been helped massively by my employer Staffordshire Police putting a post out which helped to push me over the £4,000 mark. With just under four weeks to the event now my goal has been smashed and any more money that is donated is just amazing.”
Staffordshire Police Chief Inspector Mat Derrick said: “Rich’s hair and beard are very recognisable and I know how much they mean to him. It’s great to see one of the team raising money for charity in this way and it will be strange to see him with no hair!”
The haircut will take place at around 1.30pm on May 22 at Bramshall Parish Hall. Rich added: “The parish hall committee has kindly donated the venue free of charge for the haircut and I’m hoping to organise some food and drink vendors as well as some entertainment for the local community at the same time.
“Obviously I’m keeping a close eye on the Covid-19 restrictions, but I’m really hopeful we can have a fun community event and I’m very keen to hear from anyone who would like to come along and offer food, drink of entertainment for the afternoon.”
Rich’s hair will be donated and made into wigs for people undergoing treatments that can trigger hair loss. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com and search Rich Lymer. A link to Rich’s online donation site can also be found on the Uttoxeter Echo’s Facebook page.
