SUPPORTERS have raised almost £5,000 in aid of a new eco-centre in Uttoxeter. The Globe Foundation launched a crowdfunding appeal for the change to new premises in the town centre. And supporters have raised £4,860, just shy of the £5k target.
It is expected that the foundation will move into the Old Mill, Church Street, next month.
Kate Copeland, Founder of The Globe Foundation said: “We would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to all that donated, it means a lot to us that our community is behind this project. This money, alongside some of the renovation grants we have applied for, will help us to create an Eco Centre that you can be proud of.”
The Crowdfunding will be added towards the overall funding target of £120k, Globe aims to raise the remaining monies through by charitable and community grants. The project has already also received funding from Comic Relief and Tesco’s to help make the project COVID safe for when they plan to move in October 2020.
The new premises will be a vibrant community hub that will eventually be a home to an eco education hub with classrooms and training pods, a wellness studio, exhibition space and interactive VR learning suite, craft studio, recycling station and a zero waste shop.
Kate added: “We are also hoping to source funding for an exciting new low carbon botanical café, that helps to improve our eating styles and minimise the environmental impact of our food. It will also provide even more volunteer opportunities and be a great community space for local residents.
“The combination of the services we can offer in our new home will enable us to provide eco projects, education and skills training, employment and apprenticeship opportunities, volunteering placements, community health and wellbeing sessions, support for start-up and non-profit organisations, as well as a safe community space to bring us together in what has been one of the most challenging times in recent history. It will also mean we can breathe a little life back into a vacant building, highlighting its heritage and making it a useful part of the community again.”
