A Moorlands charity is making a number of festive appeals to help support the dogs which are currently in their care.
Luosko German Shepherd Dog Rescue, which is based in Cheadle, has launched its 2020 Shoe Boxes Christmas Appeal.
Stuart Harvey, who is the Rescue Coordinator & Senior K9 Technician at the Delphouse Road rescue centre, said: “It’s that time of year again when we are asking for the public’s help to get Christmas pressies for the rescue dogs on Christmas Day.
“We are asking for people to fill shoe boxes and then wrap them in Christmas paper before popping them along to one of our collection points.”
Suggested items to go in the shoe boxes include: tennis balls, footballs, squeaky toys, kong toys, dog bowls, pigs ears, chicken feet, teddies and games, dog biscuits, blankets, and leads, to name but a few.
The full list, along with further guidance, can be found on the Luosko Facebook page.
Donations for Luosko Christmas Appeal Shoe Boxes can be dropped off at the Cheadle & Tean Times office in Tape Street, Cheadle during opening times, which are currently 9am until 11am on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Luosko Dog Resue is also inviting people to remember their loved ones in a special way this festive season, while helping to raise funds for the dog rescue at the same time.
Stuart said: “Every year we like to transform the driveway of the kennels to a wonderful glittery wonderland.
“If you would like to remember someone this Christmas, by having their name or a message on a bauble on the driveways, either a pet or person, please contact us.
“Memory baubles are £4 for a standard bauble and £6 for a picture bauble.”
The team at Luosko are also on the look out for Christmas Day Volunteers who can spare a few hours on the big day to help walk and clean as well as giving all the dogs their presents and their Christmas dinners.
Stuart said: “This year we have set up an online event where we will be streaming the dogs unwrapping their pressies on Christmas Day for those that can not be with us.
“It will be a Facebook live event on our Facebook page of which we are asking for a £1.99 donation to watch.”
Looking ahead to 2021, Luosko is set to open a charity shop in Cheadle.
Stuart explained: “We have just organised taking over the old Age UK charity shop in the High Street.
“We have had the windows sign written and have a Christmas display, however we will not be looking to open the doors properly until Next Year due to all the nasty virus stuff and lockdown etc.
“We will be using the shop as a base of operations for our fundraising team, so we may have days that people can drop donations off in the near future.”
