13th July 2018 to 15th July 2018
A CELEBRATION of artisan gin and rum is to be held at The Huntsman Country Pub in Cheadle this July.
The spirits have seen something of a renaissance in recent years, following the trend set by real ales which initially saw a return of interest in the classic drink followed by a swing towards artisanal and craft beers. Now, the classic G&T is more popular than ever, although interest in flavoured gins, craft gins and artisan mixers is increasing. Likewise, the resurgence of rum has seen the spirit overtake vodka and gin in national sales, with flavoured and spiced versions sparking a new passion for the quintessential ‘pirate’s firewater.’ Brothers, Kieran and Conor Devine run The Huntsman and are keen to bring a selection of unusual flavours to their first Gin and Rum Festival which takes place on Friday July 13 and Saturday 14 and Sunday, July 15. A colour-changing gin and an Irish milk gin will be among the 20 award-winning spirits on offer alongside 10 rums. With a host of flavours to try – along with gin and rum cocktails and sharing pitchers, the festival aims to encourage enthusiasts to try something new. Conor said: “People are looking for something a bit different, something with a different flavour, or that’s a bit quirky. “We will have a great selection of different drinks and mixers available. “We want to give people the opportunity to try something totally different to what they would normally drink.” The Gin and Rum Festival will be from midday each day with live music at 9pm on Friday from Risky Business, on the Saturday from reggae band Long Grass and between 4pm and 7pm on the Sunday from Kiss The Blarney. The festival will draw to a close on Sunday evening. Conor added: “Hopefully people will come down to enjoy the festival and try something a little bit different.”
