A PACKAGE of treats donated by Uttoxeter businesses has been presented to a local hero. A volunteer who ran the equivalent of the London Marathon inside the Renew Church Uttoxeter topped a poll of people nominated as local heroes by followers of The Post Bar and Lounge on Facebook.
Dorothy Waddington was presented with the prize on Sunday, May 24 by Imogen Turner from The Post Bar and Lounge who organised the contest.
Imogen said: “Dorothy is helping out at the Renew food bank and helping in the community collecting and delivering shopping for those who are vulnerable. She was due to run the London Marathon this year and when it was postponed rather than putting her feet up she ran 26.2 miles inside the empty church and raised over £2,400 for the local food bank. She does so much for others on a daily basis and she supports local charities and causes.”
Dorothy received a hamper including cocktails from The Post Bar and Lounge, a family meal from Mario’s, Daltons ice cream, cupcakes from Dani Mis, brownies from Claire, a bouquet from The Flowershop of Uttoxeter, a voucher from Echo Art, vouchers for a spa day at Hoar Cross Hall which can be used when it reopens and a donation from Brenda Cole (Uttoxeter Community Matters Facebook group).
Dorothy said: “Thank you everyone, I’m a little overwhelmed by all this and can think of a lot more people who deserve this more than I do. So many people have stepped up and gone above and beyond during this difficult period. Thank you everyone.”
Bethany Gerrard and Bethany Jane Towle were runners up and each received a voucher for two complimentary cocktails at The Post Bar and Lounge when it reopens. Imogen added: “Thank you to all the local businesses who got on board and made this possible, we really do appreciate their generosity.”
