CLEBRATING AFTER GRADUATING TOGETHER
A MOTHER and daughter from Meir have been celebrating at the double this week after graduating together from the same university.
Lisa and Beth Hobson each claimed first class degrees from Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent and are now planning to teach children.
Lisa, aged 42, studied her BA course in education part-time alongside her job as a teaching assistant and will now train to achieve her dream of becoming a primary school teacher.
She said: “I had always worked in retail, but I suddenly realised that I wanted to do more with my life.
“ I started off as a teaching assistant and built myself up to completing the education degree through part-time study.”
Beth, aged 21, moved on to the BA Early Childhood studies degree straight from her A Levels.
And although she didn’t bump into her mum on campus, she said it was great to have someone at home who understood the demands of studying.
“Mum always helped me out if I was struggling with something and my whole family at home have been really supportive,” she said.
“Staffordshire University is local for me and I had a really good experience.”
