A LARGE scale creative event has been cancelled amid the current coronavirus situation. This year’s Cheadle Arts Festival had set to take place during the month of June, and plans were in place for an enhanced programme to previous years including: an Open Arts Exhibition, a High Street Gallery, and Arts & Crafts Market, a host of participation and learning events, and a full ‘fringe programme of events, to name but a few. However, the volunteer organising team has now taken the difficult decision to cancel the creative extravaganza due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
Catherine Doel, on behalf of the Cheadle Arts Festival organising team, said: “It will come as no surprise that we are announcing the cancellation of the whole Cheadle Arts Festival programme for 2020.
“This is a rapidly changing situation and whilst we were hopeful of being able to pursue some elements, if the situation improves in the coming months, we do not want to give out confusing messages. Let’s be clear, we all need to take this virus very seriously.
“Our thanks go to everyone that has committed their time and energy to shaping what would have been an exciting Cheadle Arts Festival programme.
“There was a real spirit of collaboration across the town (and beyond).
“We are confident that all our efforts have not been wasted and the entire festival can be safely delivered in 2021.”
Meanwhile, the arts festival team are working with Support Staffordshire on the non-recoverable costs of cancelling the 2020 festival.
Catherine added: “If there is anything that I need to be aware of, that will not be picked up by other grant applications, please let me have the information.
“There are updates regarding the cancellation on our Facebook page and on the website and I would be grateful if people could share them.
“Planning this festival has been fun thus far, but now we have more important matters to consider.
“Please stay safe everyone.”
