A share offer, which is aimed at a community saving a former chapel building in the Moorlands, has reached more than £40,000. The ‘Kingsley Holt Centre’ group is aiming to purchase the Methodist Chapel in Kingsley Holt, which the Staffordshire Moorlands Methodist Circuit had previously announced that it is putting the building up for sale.

In 2021, the Kingsley Holt Centre group made a successful bid to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for the building to be registered as an Asset of Community Value.

The Kingsley Holt Centre Project is now aiming to raise around £250,000 to purchase and refurbish the former chapel, to provide a welcoming space for groups, clubs, activities, events and hopefully a community shop and café.

They have set up a Community Benefit Society which will run The Kingsley Holt Centre for the benefit of the residents of Kingsley Holt and the surrounding area.

Last month, the society launched a community share offer in their bid to raise the funds needed to purchase the building.

A spokesman for the group said: “The Kingsley Holt Share Offer has made a fantastic start raising over £40,000 since opening.

The offer has had a very positive response from the village with applications coming in from all corners of the community.

To see that the project is so important to the village is very rewarding and to see the community coming together to support is very heart warming.”

They continued: “We are a small rural village and will need all the support we can get if we are to make this a success.

We are asking, appealing to any individual, company, organisation, council, everyone able to support us please take a look at our website www.kingsleyholtcentre.co.uk for information on how you can become part of something special.

You will be supporting a valuable community project and your investment will remain in the local community.”

The spokesman added: “Thank you to all those that have shown support to date, your support has made the many hours of time and effort already committed to this project so worthwhile, thank you.

Do you still have an application form siting on the breakfast table or staring down from the mantel, please don’t wait until it’s too late to invest, support now if you possibly can.

The share offer is due to close on Friday, April 22, don’t miss out on helping to Save Our Space.”

Further information can be found at www.kingsleyholtcentre.co.uk, by emailing info@kingsleyholtcentre.co.uk. There will also be a Drop-in Information Event at the Blacksmith Arms on April 20 between 6pm and 8pm.
