Community response post to shut

By timesecholife on in All News, Latest News

WEST Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has confirmed that a community response post in a Moorlands town is to close next year, citing financial viability as the reason. The trust stated that Cheadle's community response post, which is situated in Ashbourne Road, will shut by the end of March 2020 but it will turn the rapid response vehicle that is stationed in the town currently into a “double crewed ambulance.” Further to this, it said there are no plans to change the ambulance provision in Cheadle and the surrounding area.

The WMAS spokesman also explained that “97.8 per cent of calls within the town and the surrounding area are attended by other vehicles and not the response car, which attends just 2.2 per cent of call-outs.”

The spokesman added: “There are no plans to change the level of ambulance provision in Cheadle or the surrounding area, if anything, this will increase over the coming months.

“The trust is to convert the rapid response vehicle that is currently stationed at Cheadle into a double crewed ambulance and as part of that change, the community response post in the town will close by the end of March 2020.

“Currently, 97.8 per cent of calls within Cheadle and the surrounding area are attended by vehicles other than the response car; it attends just 2.2 per cent of calls.

“Given the cost of providing the post, and how few calls the car based there attends, it is no longer financially viable to keep the building which is seldom used except at the beginning and end of a shift.

“We would much rather use that money to pay for additional paramedics and emergency vehicles which will respond to patients in their hour of need, saving lives.”

  • An ambulance that will probably spend more time in the city than covering the needs of Cheadle. Why not place a double crewed ambulance alongside the RRV so the people ret an even better service rather than waiting ages for transport to hospital?
