MEMBERS of Cheadle Methodist Church celebrated their 50th anniversary by bidding a fond farewell as part of a successful open day.
Church regular Abigail Ratcliffe, who is from the town, is taking up an internship at a church in Italy next month.
The 21-year-old will help refugees and support homeless people at the Ponte Sant Angelo Church in Rome, having recently graduated from Bangor University.
Nearly 100 visitors attended the open day, which included a service in which Abigail was given a formal blessing for her trip.
The service was followed by a celebratory lunch attended by Cheadle Deputy Mayor Stephen Ellis and other dignitaries.
Church member Heather Bates said: “It was a fantastic day and there were lots of people.
“The majority of visitors enjoyed the picture we’d put up to celebrate our anniversary featuring members of the Sunday school, our floats and queens over the years.”
