Plaque unveiled in honour of Fay
THE life of the former Chairman of the Tean Village Hall Committee and member of the Tean Community Singers was commemorated last Thursday with the unveiling of a plaque at the Heath House, Tean.
Mrs Fay Burney who sadly passed away in December of last year, served for many years on the Village Hall Committee but also enjoyed a passion for singing with the Tean Community Singers as well as being a keen gardener and lover of nature.
In 2015, readers of the Times and Echo will probably remember Fay being pictured with a white climbing rose which she donated to Heath House. This rose was aptly named ‘Fay’s Rose’.
The Community Singers thought that as a lasting tribute, the placing of a plaque could be installed alongside the rose reflecting her passion for nature.
Set amidst the beautiful scenery of Tean’s historic mansion with the azaleas and rhododendrons in full bloom, the choir along with Fay’s husband John, family and friends met at the orangery for an unveiling ceremony and the singers for their part performed three of Fay’s favourite songs from the choir’s repertoire
In welcoming everyone musical director Mr Christopher Timewell paid tribute to Fay for her contribution to the choir, her love of music, vitality for life in general and support given by her presence.
Also present was Councillor Mark Deaville who presented the Tean Community Singers with a cheque for £200 towards fund raising events, the next of which will be a concert on Friday 16th June for CRY.
In giving a vote of thanks to the Community Singers Mark commented that this had been an emotional evening for him but went on to say that he was also happy and proud to support the community with his contribution.
At the unveiling ceremony Mr John Burney expressed his gratitude to the Philips family of Heath House, also Mr Dave Laws and Mrs Joyce Plant for organising the evening and the choir for commemorating Fay’s life with this lasting memorial.
Guests were then invited back to The Venue, Tean for a short concert and buffet provided by choir.
The singers meet weekly at The Venue, Tean from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday and anyone is welcome to join.
