A TOWN centre charity has issued a desperate plea to traders in Cheadle after being hit by record demand.
Requests for emergency supplies soared by almost 30 per cent at Cheadle Food Bank last year.
And volunteers are now calling on businesses in the town to help fund the operation.
They’re planning to approach more than 50 companies in a bid to raise the £4,000 needed to run the centre this year.
Project co-ordinator Diane White says the food bank, based at the Guild Hall in Tape Street, is finding it harder than ever to raise funds.
She said: “We’ve been operating for nearly four years and local people and businesses have been very generous in donating both funds and food.
