A BRAMSHALL business is putting its best foot forward to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity. Staff at Pym & Wildsmith will take part in a charity football match this weekend in memory of Simon Collins – the son of long-term employee, Kevin Collins.
Simon was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2014, undergoing surgery and treatment before taking on a series of fund-raising drives for cancer charities.
In April this year Simon was told he had less than 12 months to live.
Despite successfully battling subsequent complications including a blood clot and pneumonia, Simon passed away on June 4, aged just 36.
Simon’s family and friends have already raised more than £1,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity in his honour – and now his father’s colleagues at Pym & Wildsmith have planned their own fund-raising drive in his memory.
The firm is hosting a charity football match on Saturday afternoon, kicking off at 12.30pm at Rocester Football Club.
Pym & Wildsmith’s Ben Hocking said: “The Brain Tumour charity supports people affected by brain tumours; not just those who have brain tumours themselves, but also their loved ones, health professionals who go above and beyond to help, and the researchers who are searching endlessly for a cure to this terrible cancer, which is the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40.
“We chose the Brain Tumour Charity in memory of Simon Collins, who sadly passed away earlier this year having battled this illness for several years.
“His father, Kevin, has been part of the furniture here at Pym & Wildsmith for over 27 years, and this is a loss felt by everyone at the company.”
Due to ongoing precautions surrounding Covid-19, attendance is limited to family and friends of employees.
