A major employer in Uttoxeter is offering company homes for 70 Ukrainian refugees forced to flee the war in their homeland. JCB properties in Uttoxeter are being made available and the first family has moved into a JCB house in the town.

A Leek woman has been jailed for four years after being found guilty of kidnap, possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place and dangerous driving. Katherine Beckham, aged 27, of Pickwood Road, Leek, was up in court on May 13 during the same hearing as Henry Parkhurst, aged 24, of HMP Dovegate, Draycott-in-the-Clay – both in relation to an incident in Newcastle-under-Lyme last year.

Schools have collectively raised £16,500 to help those affected by war-torn Ukraine. A multitude of fund-raising activities have been carried out across the two high and 13 primary schools who are all part of The Painsley Catholic Academy.

People from across community and statutory organisations came together on Thursday (May 19) at Uttoxeter Town Hall to celebrate the achievement of Uttoxeter passing the formal accreditation process to become a Compassionate Community.

A teenager from Uttoxeter has tackled a 5km swimming challenge, as part of a five-year fund-raising campaign. Evelyn Fletcher, aged 16, first combined swimming and fund-raising by taking part in Swimathon 2018, and has taken part each year since.

A LARGE scale music event, which has set to take place in Uttoxeter this year, has been postponed for another year. The 2022 Acoustic Festival of Britain had set to take place from May 20 until May 22 at it’s regular venue of Uttoxeter Racecourse.

A new fund has been officially launched to specifically help voluntary groups in Uttoxeter. We Love Uttoxeter was launched recently by The Community Foundation of Staffordshire, working with an advisory panel, who are set to help manage the promotion, fund-raising, and distribution of the grants.

Large containers of nitrous oxide found at a village near Uttoxeter could be part of a ‘worrying’ new trend. The British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA), said people misusing nitrous oxide – also known as noz, balloons and laughing gas – were buying the gas in containers 70 times larger than previously.
