Blooming Gold again for town

East Staffordshire’s entries into this year’s Heart of England In Bloom competition have shone once again with the In Bloom entries in Uttoxeter, Burton and Winshill all receiving gold. The competition rewards community groups for the quality of floral displays, horticultural excellence and community involvement. More than 3,000 groups participate each year to help improve their local villages, towns and cities.

“This serves as a warning”

A Police chief hopes that a Uttoxeter man being sentenced for intent to supply cannabis and possession of a stun gun “serves as a warning to anyone who may be involved in drug activities.” The statement has come from Detective Sergeant Jonathan Bradbury, of Staffordshire Police’s Disruption Team South, after 30-year-old Christopher Ward, from Lambert Road in Uttoxeter, has been given a community order for 12 months for the crimes, after police uncovered quantities of cannabis and a stun gun which was disguised as a torch at Ward’s address.

Leisure centre blows final whistle on swimming club

A SWIMMING club has been forced to close after more than 50 years after being told there was no space for them at Uttoxeter Leisure Centre. Uttoxeter Amateur Swimming Club, which has been running in the town for more than 50 years, was forced to close for 18 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic and is now unable to re-open. The news follows concerns raised by residents over the provision of fitness classes at Uttoxeter Leisure Centre.

Controversial plans unveiled for historic site

Plans have been unveiled for a new care home and a housing development for a historic site in Uttoxeter. The Uttoxeter Echo reported earlier this year that the former Parks Restaurant in Uttoxeter had been purchased by Mercian Developments Ltd, and that a petition had been set up due to the developer’s plans to knock down the historic building to make way for a new care home.
