NEW life-saving equipment has been installed in Grindley. Villagers and businesses worked together to fund the 24-hour defibrillator, which was provided by charity AEDdonate last month. Volunteers reached their £1,999 target, despite their main fund-raiser being cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.

A TEAM tasked with preparing shoppers and businesses for further easing of the coronavirus lockdown will introduce stencilled guides and advisory signage in Uttoxeter town centre. Queue zones outside shops and signs reminding people to adhere to social distancing will be in place before non-essential stores reopen from Monday, June 15.

UTTOXETER youngster Jake Seed has raised £100 to help provide meals for the elderly and vulnerable. Jake organised a yard sale from his home, selling toys and books to raise money.

A PACKAGE of treats donated by Uttoxeter businesses has been presented to a local hero. A volunteer who ran the equivalent of the London Marathon inside the Renew Church Uttoxeter topped a poll of people nominated as local heroes by followers of The Post Bar and Lounge on Facebook.

A charismatic entrepreneur who died following a sudden illness was honoured with a cavalcade of buses as he was laid to rest last week. The convoy was in honour of D&G Bus founder, David Backhouse Reeves, who passed away on Monday, May 11. He was just 61.

POLICE and the fire service are calling for motorists to obey speed limits and behave ‘sensibly’ as lock down restrictions ease. The force warned drivers to obey speed limits as officers clocked a Porsche being driven at 114mph on the A50 near Uttoxeter over the Bank Holiday weekend.

AN ACTION plan for promoting nature and protecting wildlife is being drafted after a town-wide consultation. Analysis of more than 250 comments will be used to identify actions to be taken in six different categories across Uttoxeter.

A THIRD theft of lambs in East Staffordshire has seen 13 lambs taken from a field at Denstone. The crime follows thefts of livestock at Yoxall and Needwood in the last few weeks. Police are investigating the thefts and are carrying out high visibility patrols in rural areas.

AN ‘HISTORIC’ moment for Uttoxeter Town Council took place last week, when the organisation held its first ever virtual council meeting. The council held its first full council since March, after coronavirus lock down restrictions meant the April meeting could not go ahead.

A CAFÉ owner has taken elderly and vulnerable customers under her wing during the coronavirus pandemic. Old Saddler’s Yard Café is delivering hot meals to customers across the Uttoxeter area as well as providing free meals for those most in need.
