Drivers and pedestrians alike have been dealing with chaos in a town centre car park in the Moorlands this week.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) is currently carrying out resurfacing works on Tape Street Car Park which is causing disruption for car park users and those walking through it.
Meanwhile, travellers turned up overnight on Monday (September 13) to park their cars and caravans on the Tape Street Car Park.
Car park user Penny Milward contacted the Times & Echo about the current chaos in Tape Street Car Park. She said: “I am just wondering what’s happening with the caravans that have turned up overnight.
“When they are taking up valuable parking due to the on going works that are happening at present.
“If I didn’t pay for my parking I would be fined.”
She added regarding the works which are being carried out on the car park: “People are dodging in front of workers to get to town which is dangerous.
“What’s going to happen at school time?”
The Times & Echo contacted SMDC about the concerns over the works and also the arrival of the travellers. A council spokesman said: “The council is carrying out essential maintenance work to the car park.
“The contractors have had banksmen to control traffic during the preparation phase and when the surfacing phase of the works is being carried out on the road on Thursday it will be closed at either end as necessary. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
And in response to the travellers turning up at Tape Street Car Park, the SMDC spokesman said: “We are aware of the arrival of travellers at the site and we’re liaising with them and the Police in line with our agreed procedures.”
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Staffordshire Police said yesterday (Tuesday, September 14): “We were made aware of a number of caravans in Tape Street, Cheadle in the early hours of this morning.
“Officers attended the site following a complaint about noise and gave advice.”
