DOZENS of mourners and well-wishers met on Friday evening to light a candle in memory of murdered midwife Samantha Eastwood.
The candlelit vigil took place at The Square in Caverswall, with families, friends, and members of the public who have followed the story, meeting at the stocks to light a candle in memory of the Keele University graduate from Baddeley Green.
The Caverswall vigil was one of many which took place over Stoke-on-Trent at 7.20pm on Friday (August 10), exactly two weeks after the 28-year-old was first reported missing.
Samantha’s body was found in a rural area of Caverswall on Saturday, August 4, eight days after she didn’t turn up for her night shift at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and colleagues made a call to Staffordshire Police.
Members of the public were invited to either attend public vigils or to pay their respects at home, but were encouraged to light a candle – a united light against the darkness of such a tragedy.
Those paying their respects by lighting a candle were also encouraged to share their experience online, by posting a photo onto a Facebook event page called ‘Light A Candle And Unite For Samantha Eastwood’.
