A MAN has been jailed after carrying out a spate of burglaries in rural locations of Staffordshire – including one at a house in Uttoxeter. Ross Underwood, aged 34, of Marans Croft in Birmingham, was sentenced when he appeared at Stafford Crown Court on Friday, June 28. At an earlier hearing, Underwood admitted a burglary at a house in Westward Close, Uttoxeter and another in Gallowstree Lane, Mayfield. He also pleaded guilty to an attempted burglary on Birchalls Close in Leek.
Underwood was arrested on the afternoon of May 29 after officers identified his vehicle travelling on Salem Street in Stoke-on-Trent, following the attempted break-in in Leek.
After searching his vehicle, officers also found property from the other two burglaries that had been carried out that day.
Chief Inspector Mark Thorley, commander for the Staffordshire Moorlands Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is a great result for residents in communities in the Moorlands who may have been concerned by some of the changes to where officers are based.
“Officers and police staff from a number of departments across the force worked together and were able to locate and follow Underwood’s vehicle in less than 30 minutes.
“This demonstrates that we are able to identify and locate suspects and offenders who may think there are easy pickings to be had in the Moorlands and other rural locations.
“I hope it gives residents some reassurance that, despite what they may have heard and read about the changes to the way we work, police are still able to work effectively together to tackle crime in rural areas and bring offenders to justice within minutes of a call being received.”
