Bringing jazz back to town

There was lots of toe tapping by a Foxlowe Arts Centre audience last week as a celebration of all things jazz took place at the Leek venue. There was a top class line-up for Thursday’s (June 16) jazz night at the community-run arts centre with the Bridge Street Stompers and virtuoso saxophonist Justin Holcroft.

There was a top class line-up for Thursday’s (June 16) jazz night at the community-run arts centre with the Bridge Street Stompers and virtuoso saxophonist Justin Holcroft.
The event had been organised by Dave Daniels to recall the Leek Jazz Club he used to run at the old George Hotel, as well as appealing to today’s audience.
Others in the band were Glyn Bennett trumpet, Richard Slater trombone, Jake Reeves banjo/guitar, Lily Lynch bass, and Dave Timmis drums. Leek-born musician Nigel Keates will be guesting on saxophone.
It is hoped that the jazz evening will become a regular event at the Foxlowe Arts Centre.
