A scout and guide band in the Moorlands is joining forces with another band in Staffordshire to parade at community events together.

The 5th Leek Scout and Guide Band is collaborating with the Stone Scout & Guide Band, and joint rehearsals have begun.

A spokesman for the Leek band announced the collaboration on the group’s Facebook page on February 5, they stated: “We had a very positive and promising chat with Stone Scout & Guide Band today regarding our two bands collaborating.

Really looking forward to working together and being able to get out and perform again, after what has been a difficult couple of years for us all. Watch this space for more news in the near future.”

Then on February 10, they stated: “Our next practice session will be in collaboration with Stone S & G Band at their venue on Saturday, February 19.

We will then meet as normal on February 24, hopefully joined by some of Stone’s musicians. Further dates and venues will be notified in due course. Watch this space as we embark on a new and exciting venture.

Don’t forget, we are looking for new members so why not come and give banding a go.”

And then on February 19, they updated their Facebook followers in stating: “Had a superb practice with Stone Scout and Guide Band this morning.

Thank you so much for hosting us, it was a very productive session. We look forward to hosting you at our HQ on March 10 when we’ll have a couple more of our band to join in.”

Band Leader Mark Bradford further told the Leek & Moorlands Echo: “We are hosting Stone at our HQ on March 10 and we intend to alternate between venues for practice sessions.

Our aim is to parade together for St George’s Day in Stone and hopefully Cheadle Carnival on July 2 followed by Leek Club Day.

We hope this venture will put us in the public eye and help with recruitment ultimately enabling both bands to continue.”

The 5th Leek Scout and Guide Band is a competition class Traditional flute, bugle and drum marching scout and guide band founded in 1960’s representing Leek and Staffs Moorlands District.
