A marching band in the Moorlands is making an appeal for new members to keep the band going.
The appeal has been made by the 5th Leek Scout and Guide Band which has been going since the 1960’s.
A spokesman for the band said: “5th Leek Scout and Guide Band is a Competition Class marching band playing side/bass drums, bugle, whistle/military flute, bell lyre and cymbals. We currently have positions available for new recruits and voluntary instructors.
“We are an inclusive band and aim to promote the development of the following attributes: Self-confidence through public performance and improvement of musical and marching skills; Self-discipline through maintaining tidy uniform, clean equipment and practicing musical pieces and drill movements.
“Teamwork and a sense of belonging; Pride in our abilities, achievements appearance and performance; Community spirit through supporting local carnivals and fetes as well as parades; The courage to challenge ourselves through taking part in competitions or prestigious events such as the Lord Mayor’s Show in London.
“Inter-personal skills through interaction with a wide range of age groups including youth and adult members of banding societies and associations from across the country.”
They added: “We meet on Thursday evenings between 7pm and 8.30pm at the Scout Hut on Fowlchurch Road.
“Instruments, uniform and tuition is provided for a modest subscription of £2 per session.
“Participation in other Scout or Guiding activities is not necessary, however, a capitation fee is payable annually for insurance purposes.
“Anyone interested in becoming a band member is welcome to join us on Thursday evenings.
“Previous musical or banding experience is not necessary but would be appreciated for instructor positions.”
