A THIRD theft of lambs in East Staffordshire has seen 13 lambs taken from a field at Denstone. The crime follows thefts of livestock at Yoxall and Needwood in the last few weeks. Police are investigating the thefts and are carrying out high visibility patrols in rural areas.
The latest incident took place last week and officers have since launched an appeal for witnesses and made CCTV enquiries in the area. The 13 Texel-cross lambs were stolen from a field off the B5031 in Denstone between Tuesday, May 12 and Saturday, May 16.
A force spokesman said: “If you saw anything suspicious during this period of time in this area please contact Staffordshire Police digitally via Messenger on Facebook or our website, alternatively by calling 101 quoting reference SP-20200516-0162.”
During April, 31 sheep were stolen from a field in the Woodmill area of Yoxall, although the theft was not reported until May 5. A further 10 sheep were stolen from land off the B5017 at Needwood during the night of Sunday, April 26. The area being searched the following day and in a bizarre twist, the ewes were all returned the day after.
