Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty has accepted an invitation to attempt a master stroke on the dance floor in front of millions of television viewers.
The 26-year-old is one of the latest stars to be recruited by the BBC for its immensely popular Strictly Come Dancing series this autumn.
Uttoxeter-raised Adam said: “This will come as a surprise to a lot of people but I am excited.
I’m really looking forward to doing something totally different and challenging myself away from the pool.
I’m hoping my competitive nature is going to compensate for my dancing abilities,” he added.
Adam became the first British swimmer to retain an Olympic title in winning the 100m breaststroke final at the recent Tokyo Games. He also claimed a gold and a silver medal in relay team events.
The former Painsley RC College, Cheadle student has become an eight-time World, 16-time European and three-time Commonwealth champion.
He got his first taste of competitive swimming as a youngster with his home town Dove Valley club.
