The Bridal Rooms in Carter Street, Uttoxeter, was named Best bridal Boutique at the fourth English Wedding Awards West Midlands. The awards were presented at a glitzy ceremony on November 26 - the same day that the business marked two years under the ownership of Gayle Carr-Willis. Gayle attended the ceremony with her mother, Cath Carr, who helps in the boutique.
A former dancer, Gayle was inspired by her own wedding in 2015 to take on a bridal business.
She bought The Bridal Rooms business in 2017 and relocated to Uttoxeter with the desire to make wedding dress shopping a special and personal experience for brides-to-be.
Gayle said: “I used to be a dancer and I loved all the amazing costumes.
“While I was preparing for my own wedding I thought ‘I could do this.’
“We make every visit as special as we can for our brides-to-be
“The shop is closed for their hour and half appointment, we’re bursting with so many dresses to choose from and we all enjoy some special biscuits, hot drinks or a glass of prosecco.
“It’s all about the personal touch.”
Now, her vision has been recognised at the English Wedding Awards, which recognise the work of businesses within the industry based on customer feedback.
Gayle added: “It really was a shock.
“We went along thinking it would be a nice black tie event and a nice way to celebrate our second birthday.
“There were many businesses that have been around a long time, so it was a real shock when they said we had won.
“I was shaking like a leaf when we went up on the stage.”
The English Wedding Awards 2019 recognise top wedding specialists across the country.
Hundreds of businesses and wedding specialists gathered on Tuesday, November 26, at The Birmingham Holiday Inn City Centre to celebrate the best the industry has to offer.
The awards were also an opportunity for charity fund-raising with money raised on the night for the Buddy Bag Foundation.
The charity provides back packs filled with essentials for children who have had to leave their home unexpectedly.
A spokesman for The English Wedding Awards 2019 said: “The winners of the English Wedding Awards 2019 represent the industry’s gold standard that work tirelessly to meet the demands of the couples and their guests.
“The awards showcased some of the best wedding specialists that operate in the industry, whose excellence and commitment, brought them at the forefront of the industry.
“The competition was really tough this year, but these champions are tried and tested specialists that know how to create a stress-free wedding experience, keeping the romance in the air. We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their amazing achievements.”
Gayle said: “We’d just like to thank everyone – including our brides past, present and future – who voted for us and made this possible. It was an unexpected, but fabulous, shock!”
