Birthday disco in memory of Joe

By timesecholife on in All News, Community News

SUPPORTERS and friends of the late Joe Leyland attended a special fundraising event at the weekend, in celebration of the teenager's 18th birthday.

Joe’s parents, Maria and Ian, along with sister Charlotte organised a themed 80s night at Cheadle’s Guild Hall, to raise additional funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in memory of Joe.

The disco on Saturday took place on what would have been Joe’s 18th birthday, and money raised from ticket sales will go towards the charity CRY.

The Leyland’s have raised thousands since Joe’s death in 2016, which was caused by a sudden and unknown heart condition, known as Mitochondrial Myopathy.

Around 150 supporters rallied around the Leyland family on Saturday to remember Joe, with most of those in attendance donning their best 80s inspired costumes and fancy dress.

Joe’s mum, Maria said: “The live music and disco was provided by the A.Ts from Manchester, and they were absolutely brilliant.

“They even sang Joe’s favourite song at the end, Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars, which is obviously not from the 80s but done as a special request by myself.
