Museum revamp plans submitted

PLANS for a major revamp at the Museum of Uttoxeter Life have been given the stamp of approval by the town's council.

Following a huge fund-raising campaign supported by Uttoxeter Town Council, JCB and the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), Uttoxeter Heritage Trust has finally been able to apply for permission to alter Redfern’s Cottage in Carter Street.

Two planning applications for the museum have been submitted to East Staffordshire Borough Council and were sent to the town council as a statutory consultee.

Uttoxeter Heritage Trust was awarded a total of £988,400 by HLF to upgrade, restore and improve access to the volunteer-run Museum of Uttoxeter Life and its collections, housed in the Grade II 17th century cottage, which is owned by the town council.

Uttoxeter’s Town Mayor, Cllr Alison Trenery, said: “We were delighted to see the planning applications on the town council agenda and gave them our full support.

“I’m grateful to all involved in the lengthy groundwork and fundraising, and it will be wonderful to see the vision for the Museum of Uttoxeter Life becoming a reality.

“It will be a great asset for townspeople and visitors alike, and the town council are pleased and proud that this property which we have owned for many years will become such a valuable and attractive resource for the town.”
