FIREFIGHTERS have worked 'above and beyond' to tackle a woodland blaze near Cheadle this week.

The fire at Dimminsgdale, near Alton, began on Monday afternoon and saw several crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service working through the night to contain the fire, and crews remained at the site yesterday to further ‘dampen down’ the site.
The service was called to Red Road, Alton, at 3.34pm on Monday to reports of a fire in the valley near the disused railway.
Initially fire crews from Loggerheads, Uttoxeter, Burton-on-Trent, Barton-under-Needwood and Kidsgrove attended, followed by a specialist welfare support vehicle and various other crews throughout the evening and overnight.
Station Manager, Dan Keeling, said yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon: “This fire was a fast spreading blaze and the crews have worked in partnership with the Forestry Commission in order to deal with the incident.
