New shops spark turning point for town centre
BUSINESS leaders in Cheadle have hailed the dawn of a new era for the town centre.
The future of the High Street has been a source of concern for several years amid a string of empty shop units and dwindling footfall.
But the arrival of three shops this month alone, combined with the imminent launch of a new trade group, has sparked hopes of a revival.
And Sharon Roberts, of business group Team Cheadle, is confident the town has reached a major turning point.
She said: “The High Street has struggled for some time, but there are now very few empty shops and the fact three new ones are opening at the moment has to be great news.
“It helps to improve the shopping experience and I think people are beginning to realise there is actually a rich offering in the High Street.
“A lot of people used to think there wasn’t much going on in Cheadle and would always do their shopping elsewhere.
“But we’ve been encouraging new businesses to come here for some time and traders themselves say they’re starting to see definite signs of change.”
