SHOP owners are being invited to join a new group which will focus on the future of a town centre. Uttoxeter Town Council will next month be hosting an inaugural meeting of a 'Town Centre Forum.' The idea for the discussion group is the brain child of Uttoxeter Town Mayor Alison Trenery who raised the motion at a recent meeting of Uttoxeter Town Council.
Cllr Trenery said: “I think it would be a good idea to invite various people to get together about any issues and concerns about the town, especially those who would like to see the town centre develop.
“The group could be made up of councillors, shop owners and representatives of community organisations.”
Invitations have now been sent out to retailers for the inaugural meeting which is set to take place on the afternoon of Thursday, November 8.
Cllr Trenery added that Uttoxeter Town Hall would be the ideal venue for meetings of the Town Centre Forum. She said: “The only resources required for such a forum is a meeting room which we have here at the town hall.
“I just thought it would be good to get a group of people together as the town grows and develops.”
Fellow councillors agreed to the motion put forward by Cllr Trenery to start a Town Centre Forum.
Cllr Trenery later added: “Though as councillors we have our own vision of what we would like to see in the town centre, it is important that we get the wider view.
“Uttoxeter Town councillors have agreed that we will host a ‘Town Centre Forum’ to invite local businesses, organisations and community groups to get together and share their concerns and ideas about the town’s future.
“I’m hoping we can interest some young people in this as they are the future for the town and it needs to meet their aspirations too.”
Attendance for the first meeting of the Town Centre Forum for Uttoxeter is by invitation from the town council.
However community leaders are also keen to hear of any ideas from others about what they would like to see in the town centre.
