Popular Kev plans Lakeside Club concert

Tickets are on sale for a special concert featuring a popular local musician at JCB Lakeside Club later this month. The Kev Hand Band will appear at the Rocester venue on Saturday, November 25 in an event organised by JCB Angling Club. Singer-songwriter Kev was the front man with Uttoxeter band Yeah Jazz, who released a number of singles and toured the UK and Germany during the 1980s. His current band, which plays folk-inspired jazz, has a large following and concert organisers are expecting tickets, priced £5 including free raffle entry, to sell fast. Tickets are available from JCB Social Club or, for more information, call Alan Brown on 07840 826264 or Lee Brown on 07921 251523.

Pie, peas and pigs

A race night with a difference. Members of Cheadle Rotary Club are hosting a pig racing night at the cricket club in the town from 7pm. Billed as an evening of fun and entertainment, including a pie and peas supper, the night will feature eight races with six 'pigs' in each race. Pictures of pigs are drawn on wooden boards and jerked along the racecourse using lengths of rope. The audience can then place bets on the winning pig as well as taking part in the races themselves. Admission to the event is by ticket only, priced £10 including the pie and peas supper. They're available at Moshi Coffee in High Street, Stoddard's Garage in Leek Road or by calling (01538) 754192.

Great Grounds Education Centre

Outdoor facility Inset Day

A unique educational facility is preparing for school visits after developers finished the first phase of improvement work. Great Grounds Education Business and Skills Centre, at Oak Tree Farm in Tickhill Lane, Dilhorne, will be finally completed in April next year. An open day, planned for Friday, November 24 will give visitors a chance to find out more about the centre. Visitors will be able to explore the open space and exhibition areas, we have meeting rooms available and plan to build more on the second floor. The Centre focuses on outdoor education and careers, teaching children of all ages manual skills and trade through demonstrations and activities. Almost everything within the facility was built from old and used items, even the stone fireplace was built from stone found on site. The tables were made from old cable drums from the solar farm behind the centre, which would have otherwise been thrown away. Everything is in place for the facility to be up and running and we'll be inviting visitors in within the next month or so.
