DONATIONS in memory of a much-loved village character are to fund a commemorative bench in her honour. Tean Community Singers raised £635 at their Our Time concert, billed as 'An Evening for Joyce' in tribute to the late Joyce Plant, who was a stalwart member of the group. Joyce's husband, John Plant (pictured with Tean Community Singers treasurer Viv Laws), praised the organisers of the sell-out concert and all those who took part.
Fellow audience member, Rosemary Cooke said: “It was both moving and joyful and I have to admit that at times I had tears in my eyes and then other times I was enjoying the singing and the comedy which also had me crying, only with laughter.”
Donations are still being received in memory of Joyce.
Choir member Dave Laws said: “We now just have to approach Checkley Parish Council and attain their blessing to site a commemorative bench somewhere in the village.”
